AIDS PEI Community Support Group Inc began in 1991 as a support group for people living with HIV/AIDS on Prince Edward Island. It had a small following, but a huge impact on the issues surrounding the disease in the province. Through fundraising and various prevention and support activities, the organization grew to include a board of directors, staff and a group of committed volunteers.
In 1999, AIDS PEI received operational funding from the AIDS Community Action Project under the Public Health Agency of Canada and opened its doors as AIDS PEI, providing the island with prevention services, education and awareness and support for people living with HIV/AIDS.
The organization has operated a needle exchange service, condom distribution, health maintenance and other supports for people living with HIV/AIDS.
AIDS PEI currently has a staff complement of two persons which fluctuates with available funding each year. We are currently located at the Midtown Plaza on University Avenue in Charlottetown.
